Deep Cleaning, Honing and Sealing
Deep cleaning is a process that requires specialized equipment, when used in conjunction with intensive stone cleaners, soil and stains are drawn to the surface where they can be rinsed away.
For highly soiled surfaces, intensive cleaning procedures are sometimes needed to help restore the stone, this process is also used to restore stained grout.
After deep cleaning, the stone is machine honed to a low gloss patina finish. This process removes minor scratches and flaws, smoothing the stone and creating a lovely consistent sheen.
The final step is to seal the surface. This protects from stains and everyday wear and tear, providing a protective barrier so your stones new surface remains lustrous and continues looking brand new.
Choosing the correct stone sealer
There are a number of different types of sealers. Penetrating sealers are the most the commonly used. They are absorbed into the freshly honed stone and do not change its natural color or sheen.
Enhancing sealers are similar to penetrating sealers in application, however they are designed to enhance the natural color of the stone, adding depth and darkening the surface.
Topical sealers are often acrylic based and add color as well as sheen to the stone's finish.
